  Enlisted in the Union Army at Ten Mile, Meigs County Tennessee company D. 7th Regiment of the Mounted Infantry Volunteers on 7 March 1856 at Nashville, Tennessee. Shortly after enlistement, began suffering from 'fits and spasms' and was hospitalized for a year, and then discharged. He was disabled the remainder of his life.
